Science:
End of the year science presentation: On May 6, the students will present their ocean boxes for the year. They will also complete a presentation. They need to pick their favorite animal that we have studied this year. This can be the same animal as their IEW science paper. The presentation needs to be at least 4 sentence. They need to write them down in their science journal. They can read their information however they will need to look at their notes and then look up to speak. The same process as for an oral retell in IEW. They can also bring an item in that goes with their presentation. I have listed two examples below. This will be two grades. One for the ocean box and one for the presentation.
Examples:
Tides: I have been to the beach and love playing in the ocean that comes on the beach. I learned that the reason the ocean that comes up on the beach is called a tide. The tide are caused by the moon. As the moon goes through the different phases the tides change the amount that they flow onto the beach. I think that it is amazing how God made the moon effect the oceans on Earth.
Killer Whales: Killer whales are my favorite animal. They are really called orcas. Orcas live in family groups their whole lives. They are amazing hunter. They are also very smart. I loved learning more about orcas or killer whales.
The Oceans Box needs to contain the following:
Chapter 1: Cover or paint the box blue
Chapter 2: Baleen what or toothed whale
Chapter 3: Seal, sea lion, walrus, or manatee
Chapter 4: Sea turtle and a sea snake
Chapter 5: There is nothing to add for this chapter
