Historical Dress-Up Day:

Costumes must be in the theme of our historic studies this year, which will cover The Holy Roman Empire (1550) through the World of the Forty-Nine(1850).  Guidelines: No weapons, no gore, nothing scary, students need to be able to move and sit properly and use the restroom on their own. Have fun thinking of ideas.

Math:

Be practicing multiplication facts.  Please work on any areas that may be difficult.  Between now and January we will be building on what we are learning.

Grammar:
Review the definitions of the parts of speech.  This can be confusing when they are trying to match these on the test.

Composition:
We are starting to learn how to write a story using a Story Sequence Chart Outline. This Outline is the same as the KWO. the only difference is the KWO has three sections to it.

The Damocles and the king is broken up into four week. We are on week three.
Week three is the climax, resolution and theme.
Week four we will combine all the rough drafts into a three paragraph story. We will not write a final draft until we combine all three weeks. Each week will have a checklist that needs to be completed for that section.

Monday - KWO and vocab
Tuesday - Oral Retell, Brainstorming page, review vocab
Wednesday - Review new concepts, review vocab, start RD
Thursday - Finish RD, parents proofread, review vocab, place RD in campus binder to be used next week.

Reading:
Finish reading "Soft Rain".  We will be completing a flap book on this book.  The flap book will be due on 10/13

History:

We will be learning 12 key dates during the year.  We will be leaning 3 dates a quarter.  At the end of the quarter there will be a quiz.  The quiz will be accumulative as the year progresses.  The dates are listed in the campus binder under the science and history tab.

Quarter 2 dates
Charles V 15194
William the silent and a Dutch revolution 1582
Jamestown Colony Founded 1607
The Thirty Years War 1618
Louis XIV the Sun King 1661

Memory:

Please spend time during your school day to work on quarter 2 poem, We Thank Thee, geography map & song, Oceania, and key dates. Feel free to get creative and practice these in the car, at bedtime, or during meals.
