IEW:
We are starting to learn how to write a story using a Story Sequence Chart Outline. This Outline is the same as the KWO, the only difference is the KWO has three sections to it.
The Damocles and the king is broken up into four week.
Week one all they will write about is the characters and setting.
Week two just the conflict and plot.
Week three is the climax, resolution and theme.
Week four we will combine all the rough drafts into a three paragraph story. We will not write a final draft until we combine all three weeks. Each week will have a checklist that needs to be completed for that section.
Monday - KWO and vocab
Tuesday - Oral Retell, Brainstorming page, review vocab
Wednesday - Review new concepts, review vocab, start RD
Thursday - Finish RD, parents proofread, review vocab, place RD in campus binder to be used next week, do not rewrite.
Science presentation:
Next Wednesday 9/27 the students will present a science presentation to the class. They can pick any topic in chapters 1-3 that they have enjoyed learning about, what they learned about the topic, what about that topic intrigued them, how does this impact our life, or why they think God chose to design our world that way. The presentation needs to be at least 3 sentences. They need to write them down in their science journal on the page labeled science presentation. They will turn in their science journal after the presentation to be graded. They can read their information however they will need to look at their notes and then look up to speak. The same process as for an oral retell in IEW. They can also bring an item in that goes with their presentation. I have listed two examples below. This will be a test grade.
Tides: I have been to the beach and love playing in the ocean that comes on the beach. I learned that the reason the ocean that comes up on the beach is called a tide. The tide are caused by the moon. As the moon goes through the different phases the tides change the amount that they flow onto the beach. I think that it is amazing how God made the moon effect the oceans on Earth.
Killer Whales: Killer whales are my favorite animal. They are really called orcas. Orcas live in family groups their whole lives. They are amazing hunter. They are also very smart. I loved learning more about orcas or killer whales.
